About Lynda

Art and Animals – two passions combined for New Zealand Vegan Artist, Lynda Bell

Lynda works full time as an artist from her home in New Zealand which she shares with her family of humans and animals.

Lynda has studied extensively, initially in education and later in the arts, gaining a Diploma in Painting, Diploma in Arts and Media, a Bachelor of Visual Art, and a Masters of Arts in Arts Therapy. Her training inspired her to be a full-time artist – a career path she has always aspired to, and this began at the end of her Visual Art degree, where she won The Feldspar Award and scholarship which entailed use of a studio for a year, with a solo exhibition.

The variety of training and life experience has taken Lynda on a path of creating art that promotes joy and inspires hope. Her connection to animals is obvious in each piece, as is her vivid and ever-growing imagination, that leads to artworks that tell stories that can be interpreted uniquely by each viewer.

“I became vegetarian as a teenager and later became vegan, and have found that this is a major part of who I am, as a person and as an artist. I see disturbing pictures often and I read things that upset me, about how animals are treated in the world and the impact that is having on the earth and on humanity. Because these things can sometimes leave me with a feeling of hopelessness, I try to counteract that through my art, and hope to bring that feeling of hopeful energy to others.”

Over the years, Lynda has exhibited in solo and group shows around New Zealand, and has sold original artwork to collectors in the UK and USA, as well as fine art prints globally. Lynda has had work and articles about her published in Emboss Magazine (international), Barefoot Vegan magazine (France), NZ Vegan and Vegan Italy Magazines. Lynda has also designed a magazine cover and t-shirt for NZAVS (New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society). She is a proud member of a group of international vegan artists named ‘The Art of Compassion Group’ who make art works to spread the animal-rights message and to raise money for animal sanctuaries and other worthy animal-rights related causes.
